Description
Sections of the Roman city wall and its gates survive at Nîmes. The gates called the Porte de France and the Porte d'Auguste still stand. The line of the wall can be seen in the garden (Jardin de la Romanité) of the archaeological museum (Musée de la Romanité). The line of the wall runs beneath the museum and then very close to the nearby amphitheater; the outline of the wall and a tower are marked in the pavement of the amphitheater's plaza. Inside the museum, there are digital displays next to the windows overlooking the plaza which show the time-lapsed construction of the wall. There are also windows overlooking the back garden and the line of the wall.
